DC Studios in Talks with Rocksteady and NetherRealm for New DC Video Games
DC Studios, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, Confirm is actively engaging with industry powerhouses Rocksteady and NetherRealm to develop new video games set in the DC Universe. This exciting initiative was confirmed during a recent DC Studios event, as reported by ComicBook.com. The goal is to create games that either continue the storylines from the films or run parallel to them, offering fresh narratives and immersive experiences that have yet to be seen since the landmark success of the Batman Arkham series.
At the event, Safran explained,
“We work incredibly closely with JB Perrette who runs that division. It’s really the first time it’s ever been this way at Warner Bros. James and I sit with the guys that run the studios under JB—whether it’s NetherRealm or Rocksteady—and we talk about characters and stories that we’re interested in and that they’re interested in.”
James Gunn added,
“We see designs for the projects in their very earliest stages. We talk about those, we talk about what the story might be and we’ll say, ‘Well, maybe you want to go this way because we’re planning on doing something with this character.’”
While no specific titles have been confirmed, Gunn hinted that new projects are on the horizon within the next couple of years. There is considerable anticipation among fans for a dedicated Superman game—an opportunity to bring the iconic hero back into the spotlight, possibly bridging the gap between Gunn’s current film endeavors and a future sequel. Given the challenges DC has faced following the Batman Arkham series, and with rough experiences seen in titles like Injustice 3, Gotham Knights, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, these talks represent a renewed commitment to developing high-quality, consistent DC video games.
