Okami 2 Is Being Developed Using the RE Engine, Realizing Hideki Kamiya’s Vision

It has been confirmed by CAPCOM and detailed in an IGN article that Okami 2 is being developed using the groundbreaking RE Engine. According to Machine Head Works producer Kiyohiko Sakata, the RE Engine—famed for powering major CAPCOM titles since Resident Evil 7—will be instrumental in bringing director Hideki Kamiya’s artistic vision to life. This advanced engine is crucial for achieving the level of visual fidelity and expressive performance that Kamiya envisions for the sequel.

CAPCOM producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi emphasized that without the RE Engine, realizing Kamiya’s creative ambitions for Okami 2 would have been impossible. The engine’s ability to deliver stunning graphics, expressive character animations, and robust performance ensures that the new game will not only honor the original’s unique visual style but also push it forward into a new era. Kamiya himself has noted that the RE Engine is renowned for "showing the best of the games that they have" and for its exceptional expressive capabilities, making it the perfect tool to capture the deep, artistic essence of the Okami series.

While the official release date and supported platforms for Okami 2 have yet to be announced, the confirmation of its development on the RE Engine marks a significant milestone for the franchise. With this powerful technology at its core, Okami 2 promises to deliver a visually breathtaking and emotionally resonant experience that will captivate both longtime fans and newcomers.

What do you think—will the use of the RE Engine elevate Okami 2 to new artistic heights, or do you believe the magic of the original can’t be replicated by modern technology? Share your thoughts below!
