WWE 2K25 Delivers an NBA-2K-Style Island Hub, Intergender Matches, and More in March
2K Games has officially lifted the curtain on WWE 2K25, the latest iteration of wrestling’s biggest gaming franchise, set to release on March 14 across PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Following incremental changes in recent entries, developer Visual Concepts appears to be taking a bolder approach, adding an online social hub (The Island), intergender matches, and a larger-than-ever roster—over 300 Superstars—with the added freedom to pit any competitor against any other. Below is the first teaser trailer, along with details on new modes, special editions, and release date options.
The Island: WWE Meets NBA 2K
One of WWE 2K25’s headline additions is The Island, an online hub reminiscent of NBA 2K’s City/Neighborhood. Up to 50 players can gather in the same instance to:
Explore: Engage in challenges, minigames, and unique storylines.
Socialize: Hang out with other wrestling fans, shop for cosmetics, and show off custom outfits.
Compete: Accept one-off matches or specialty events.
Interestingly, The Island includes an exclusive storyline that sees players trying to impress Roman Reigns; it’s standalone from the usual MyRise career story. Note that The Island is current-gen only, meaning it’s playable on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 but not on PC or last-gen consoles (Xbox One, PS4).
Bloodline Rules Showcase & Four Difficulty Levels
The new Bloodline Rules Showcase dives into a chunk of WWE history, focusing on the Samoan wrestling dynasty. This mode features three match types:
Relive History: Revisit iconic events with accurate recreations.
Change History: Tweak outcomes and see “what if” scenarios.
Dream Matches: Pair Bloodline legends like Yokozuna against contemporary Superstars.
WWE 2K25 also raises the bar with four distinct difficulty settings, ensuring casual players can jump in easily while veterans find a real challenge. Notably, intergender wrestling is fully integrated across the entire game, letting you freely book male vs. female matches in all modes.
New Match Types & Gameplay Tweaks
Intergender Matches: Finally a standard feature in WWE 2K, as men’s and women’s division Superstars can clash in all game modes.
Chain Wrestling & New Match Types: Classic grappling mechanics from earlier WWE 2Ks make a return, alongside fresh rulesets like the Underground Match and Bloodline Rules Match. Expect additional reveals soon.
Barricade Diving: A flashy new maneuver lets you soar over the barricade for a crowd-popping highlight.
MyGM & MyRise Upgrades
MyGM Online Multiplayer: Up to four players can duke it out in an expanded GM mode, now supporting cross-brand Premium Live Events, more managers, and deeper drafting.
MyRise: A single overarching story for men’s and women’s divisions, featuring Bayley, Kevin Owens, and other Superstars attempting to seize control of NXT. Offers new personality choices that branch into unique subplots.
Universe & Promo Return
Universe Mode sees the long-awaited comeback of in-game Promos, which feature:
Multiple promo types and outcomes.
New cutscenes and branching decisions.
You’ll have even more ways to shape your weekly shows, from alliances and feuds to surprise turns at key moments.
